FoodStream Learn: Bringing Food Education to NYC Public School

FoodStream Learn Arrives!

FoodStream recently launched “FoodStream Learn,” a DOE-certified Food Education vendor for NYC Public Schools.

In wealthy America, we waste 40% of the food we produce, yet 1 in 4 kids face hunger daily. This leads to poor academic outcomes and long-term health issues like obesity, which affects over 40% of children in our public schools.

While education can improve these statistics, only 1/3 of schools can access or afford food education programs. Thanks to FoodStream’s dedicated education team, we are now one of 60+ official food education providers, delivering our own food literacy programming to NYC schools.

Our shared vision is to provide food literacy programming that enables students and families to develop a culture of healthy eating, wellness, and lifelong habits through access to healthy food, nutrition education, experiential learning, and community involvement.

As we know, a healthy diet is associated with improved cognitive function, reduced absenteeism, improved mood, and better academic performance.

Last week, we attended a Food Education Partner Fair at Columbia University Teachers College, where we had the opportunity to meet with over 60 schools fortunate enough to receive a Food Education Grant. We look forward to working with some of these schools and delivering our food education programming.
